FAQ's
What is counselling like?
Counselling with me provides a confidential space where you can free discuss any challenges you may be facing. It can help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, allowing for greater insight and the development of healthier coping strategies for day to day life. Sessions are dedicated to you, allowing you to share at your own pace. There are no pressures to talk about anything you are not ready to share. At it's core, counselling with me is a collaborative relationship built on trust, established within a safe, empathetic and non-judgemental space.
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling can help with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavement, trauma, burnout, life transitions such as menopause or divorce and feelings of overwhelm. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling, you may be feeling stuck and want to gain insight to find direction in life.
Are you professionally qualified and insured?
Yes. I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a member I adhere to their ethical framework. I also hold professional indemnity insurance and I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). I am committed to ongoing personal development and attend regular supervision to ensure the highest standards of practice.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I will explain how counselling works, discuss confidentiality and our working arrangements. You will be invited to share what has brought you to counselling and ask any questions you might have.
How long are sessions and how often do they take place?
Sessions last 50 minutes and typically take place once a week. Some people prefer fortnightly sessions and we can discuss what arrangement works best based on your needs and availability.
How many sessions will I need?
The duration of counselling varies for each individual. Some clients attend for a brief period while others might choose a longer term approach. We will regularly assess your progress and you will decide what feels most helpful for you.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling is strictly confidential and what you share will not be disclosed without your consent. There are rare exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality for safety or legal reasons such as serious risk of harm to you or to others. These limits will be explained clearly in our first session.
Do you offer online or face to face counselling?
I predominantly offer face-to-face counselling, as I believe this provides the strongest foundation for building a safe and effective therapeutic relationship. Online counselling may be used alongside face-to-face sessions once initial work has been established. I also offer online sessions as an alternative for those who are unable to attend in person due to accessibility, location or personal circumstances.
Where are face to face sessions held?
I conduct sessions in dedicated therapy rooms located in Sale. I rent these private and comfortable spaces to ensure I keep my fees reasonable. The venue provides private parking and is well served by local transport links.
How much do sessions cost?
Face to face sessions are priced at £70 per session (which helps to cover room rental costs), while online sessions are £60. A discount is available for clients who book six or more sessions in advance. Payment details and cancellation policies will be provided prior to our first appointment.
How do I get started?
To being, you can reach out to me via email, phone or through the contact form to arrange a complimentary 15 minute consultation or ask any questions you may have. I strive to respond within 24 hours. Your first session can then be scheduled at a mutually convenient time and location.
